First Salute is one of the younger members of the Racing Hearts herd — a 4-year-old Standardbred gelding with a kind nature and plenty still to learn.
Unlike many Standardbreds, First Salute did not race, so his story is not one of a big track career, but of a young horse learning how to find his place in a new environment. At Racing Hearts, he is currently learning the ropes: building confidence, understanding routines, developing his education and slowly discovering what it means to become a safe, reliable partner for people.
Because he is still young, First Salute is not expected to know everything yet. His role right now is to learn quietly and carefully, with the support of our team, so he can grow into his future work at the centre. Every new experience helps him become more confident, more settled and more prepared for the kind of calm, thoughtful work our horses do.
He is a lovely reminder that not every horse begins as a finished teacher. Some need time, patience and consistency before they are ready to give back in bigger ways.
Sponsoring First Salute helps support his feed, hay, veterinary care, farrier work, dental care, bodywork, training and everyday wellbeing as he continues growing into his role at Racing Hearts.
What Sponsorship Helps Cover
When you sponsor a horse at Racing Hearts McIntyre Centre, you are helping provide the care, feed, health support, and training that allows these horses to continue changing lives. Your support helps retired racehorses find purpose, helps participants access meaningful programs, and helps keep this Centre alive for the community.
