Sophie is one of the most loved members of the Racing Hearts herd — a stout, adorable 14hh draft cross mare with a heart as big as her cuddles.
Unlike many of our horses, Sophie does not have a racing background. Her gift is something different, and just as valuable: she is safe, quiet, reliable and beautifully gentle. Those qualities make her an incredibly important horse in our Riding for the Disabled and supported riding programs, especially for adult RDA riders who need a smaller but strong, steady and confidence-building partner.
Sophie is the kind of horse who helps people feel at ease. She is always good for a cuddle, patient with her riders and wonderfully forgiving as people learn to balance, communicate and trust themselves in the saddle. Her calm presence makes her a favourite for riders who need time, reassurance and a horse who will simply take things one step at a time.
She is also a fun mount for our able-bodied riders, especially those who enjoy a horse with more “woah” than “go”. Sophie may not be the fastest horse in the arena, but she is exactly the kind of dependable, kind-hearted teacher every riding program needs.
Sponsoring Sophie helps support her feed, hay, veterinary care, farrier work, dental care, bodywork and everyday wellbeing.
What Sponsorship Helps Cover
When you sponsor a horse at Racing Hearts McIntyre Centre, you are helping provide the care, feed, health support, and training that allows these horses to continue changing lives. Your support helps retired racehorses find purpose, helps participants access meaningful programs, and helps keep this Centre alive for the community.
