Racing Hearts is a sanctuary for retired racehorses transitioning into new careers. We have successfully rehabilitated and rehomed over 100 retired racehorses, proving that second chances change lives—for both humans and horses.

The McIntyre Centre is our historic Pinjarra Hills equestrian centre, continuing the legacy of Peter and June McIntyre. Today the centre provides inclusive riding, therapy, education, community programs, events, and retired racehorse programs.

We provide equine-assisted therapy programs supporting people of all abilities through connection, movement, confidence-building, and therapeutic work with horses. Continuing a 60-year legacy of inclusive, life-changing horse programs in Pinjarra Hills.

Community Markets Update - postponement/changes

We’ve made the decision to postpone tomorrow’s Community Market. Right now we have cold, windy weather and a quieter winter season. Our supporters and vendors shared that the weather was a major factor in their decision to attend (or not attend). Let's be honest - chilly Sunday mornings don't make for the most fun at a community market! This is the right time to pause, regroup and look at how we can make future markets stronger, better supported and more worthwhile for our stallholders, visitors and volunteers.

We’re asking for your feedback as we plan ahead: Would seasonal or quarterly markets work better? What would you love to see included? What would make you more likely to come along and what times are best for you?

Our goal is to create community market days that people are genuinely excited to attend — and that local vendors feel proud to be part of. More updates coming soon.

On Saturday evening we held our first Breathwork with Horses event - Outbreath of the Heart. It was a magical night of hands on horse experiences, and a deeply relaxing breathflow guiding our breathers into a pure gong sound bath.

We had an Irish Celtic theme throughout with a tribute to Irish & Celtic healing wisdom with a stunning centre piece - a dedication to Lisas strong Irish roots and her love for Celtic history, poetry and folklore.

We also created the most powerful playlist featuring all Irish artists. Our breathers said they felt like they were taken to the depths of a mystical Celtic movie where they were the main characters.

Our soulful retired racehorses played a key role in helping our breathers feel calm, settled and grounded as they could hear their hoof beats connecting with the earth around them.

And for a beautifully flowing transition to the pure gong sound bath, we played As She Moved Through the Fair, The Chieftans & Sinead O’Connor version (Lisa’s favourite!). This pure gong sound transitioned everyone into a deeper vibration of relaxation promoting an incredible nights sleep for everyone when they got home. This experience was genuinely enchanting for everyone who attended.

A huge thank you to @geo_awaken & Nia for assisting in facilitating our breathflow & the incredible @rozbolton for her sensational gong sounds. A huge shout out to all the RH team who helped bring this vision to life. It exceeded all of our expectations.

Meet our new Counsellor Ella 💖

Ella is a registered Counsellor with experience supporting adolescents and adults across a range of settings and now offers Equine Assisted Counselling sessions at Racing hearts.

Prior to moving to Australia, Ella began establishing a private counselling practice in the United Kingdom, providing counselling support to Adults experiencing a variety of mental health challenges such as relationship struggles, anxiety, grief, lack of confidence and identity. Ella has a particular interest in the connection between the mind and body, and how the nervous system influences emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and overall health. She incorporates mindfulness-based approaches into her practice and is passionate about supporting adults and adolescents to develop self-awareness, confidence, and self-acceptance.

Ella has a lifelong passion for horses, having had the privilege of growing up alongside them and began to ride when she was only 2 years old. She has worked in a variety of Equine settings, including eventing, horsemanship, and riding schools. During her younger years, she competed in mounted games and show jumping. Ella owns a coloured mare who she thoroughly adores however she is in the UK still, she has always appreciated the calming and therapeutic affect her own horses have had on her wellbeing.

At Racing Hearts, Ella focuses on delivering equine assisted therapy services, ensuring the therapy aligns with each client’s individual therapeutic goals while incorporating horses as co-facilitators to better understand their own identity and relationships.

Our Confidence Camp is designed for riders and horse owners who want to build a calmer, clearer, more connected partnership with their horse. Regardless of whether you are rebuilding after a setback, feeling stuck, coming back to riding, or simply wanting to understand your horse on a deeper level - it's not about pushing through fear or “just getting on with it.” It’s about learning how to read your horse, regulate yourself, build trust, and create confidence from the ground up.

Over the camp, we’ll combine theory, groundwork and ridden exercises to help you better understand your horse’s behaviour, improve your timing and communication, and develop practical skills you can take home. What is Natural Horsemanship? At its simplest, natural horsemanship is about communicating with horses using their language - body language, space, pressure, release, timing and feel - rather than constantly asking them to interpret a language we have imposed on them.

Horses already understand these cues. They use them with each other every day.
True natural horsemanship starts with observation. Before we ask, correct, move or guide a horse, we first need to read what they are telling us. Are they relaxed or tense? Curious, distracted or worried? Confident or unsure? Connected or checked out?

Good horsemanship is not about overpowering a horse, testing their limits or being unpredictable. It is about clear, consistent and fair communication on the horse’s terms.

When done well, it helps create a leadership dynamic where the horse looks to the handler, rider or trainer as a trusted leader - a herd of two - because they feel safe, understand the communication, and can find confidence in that leadership. Three half-days from 30 June – 2 July, designed to help children build confidence, awareness and emotional regulation while giving parents practical communication tools.

The Language of the Horse: Natural Horsemanship Communication Clinic
Saturday 4 – Sunday 5 July, with an optional Friday add-on. A practical clinic for teen riders, adult riders, horse owners and anyone wanting to better understand horses through groundwork, natural horsemanship and clear, calm communication.

Confidence Camp: Confidence & Relationship Building with Your Horse
From Friday 10 July. A confidence-building clinic combining theory, groundwork and riding exercises to help you and your horse build trust, understanding and a stronger partnership.

Did you know that horses need dentists too? Let’s talk teeth. 🦷🐴

When people think about horse care, they usually think about feed, farriers, saddles and vet. But one of the most important parts of keeping a horse healthy, comfortable and happy? It is something you usually can’t see from the outside - their teeth.

Horses’ teeth are very different from ours. They’re designed for grazing and grinding rough forage many hours a day. Horse teeth grow continually throughout their lives (unlike ours), to allow for constant wear from rough forage. Over time their teeth often wear unevenly. They can develop sharp points, hooks, uneven surfaces or worse - cause ulcers in the cheeks or tongue. This makes it difficult for the horse to chew properly and can be very painful.

And because horses are prey animals, they are very good at hiding discomfort. They might not look sore. Instead they show subtle changes like dropping feed, losing weight, tossing their head (particularly under saddle), or becoming fussy, tense, distracted or cranky. Sometimes what looks like a training issue can actually be a horse trying to tell us “hey! my mouth hurts.”

At Racing Hearts, our horses have their teeth checked annually as part of their ongoing care program. Regular dentistry helps horses chew efficiently, digest feed properly, hold weight, stay comfortable in their work, and feel better in their bodies. For ridden horses, dental comfort is especially important because the mouth, jaw, poll, neck and whole body are connected. If the mouth is uncomfortable, the horse may struggle to relax, accept contact, bend, focus or move freely.

Just one of the many little behind-the-scenes things that helps keep our herd happy, healthy and ready for their important work.

Good horsemanship is not just about what happens in the arena. It is also about noticing the small things, preventing problems before they become a problem, and making sure every horse in our care is supported from the inside out. Healthy mouth. Our Rest, Regulate & Reset Retreat in NSW has been one of the most rewarding programs we’ve ever created at Racing Hearts.

To see our group move through their fears, resistance and perceived weaknesses with open mindedness, vulnerability and a willingness to try has been nothing short of inspirational.

Through embodied horse connection and skills building, tackling obstacles through teamwork and supporting each other as a group everyone excelled far beyond what they thought they would achieve on day 1.

With the most important participants of the weekend being the horses, our guided conscious connected breathing exercises were the strongest catalyst for change in the horse-human relationships. When we can support ourselves through our breath, so many of life’s challenges become less daunting.

NOW TAKING BOOKINGS FOR OUR NEW OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST 💖

We are incredibly excited to welcome our new OT Tayla Innes.

Tayla is registered occupational therapist with 6 experience working within community-based caseloads, primarily within the NDIS system. Tayla has experience working across the lifespan with individuals who have a range of needs and disabilities, with a particular interest in paediatrics.

Tayla works as an occupational therapist both at a community private practice and at Racing Hearts. She has experience navigating NDIS processes, including completing various reports, functional capacity assessments, equipment prescription, and capacity-building interventions. At Racing Hearts, Tayla focuses on delivering equine assisted occupational therapy services, ensuring therapy remains aligned with each client’s individual goals and functional outcomes while incorporating horses as a therapeutic modality.

Tayla has a lifelong passion for horses, having begun riding at six years old. She is an endurance rider who actively competes with her two arabian mares and has accumulated over 3,500 kilometres competing in endurance races. Tayla has attended the national endurance championships (Tom Quilty Gold Cup) on multiple occasions.

Tayla is currently taking appointments for new clients on Wednesdays and is filling up very quickly.
